Fix it and Finish it

First Fruit Collection has some exciting news....we have just finished filming two episodes for a new show on NBC called "Fix It and Finish It"!! Dave Moore at Dave Moore Company selected First Fruit Collection to be the designer for his two room renovations, we are so happy and honored that he chose us! Two families were selected in the city of Memphis, each with a room that needed major help! Our design team along with Dave Moore put our knowledge and expertise to good use by coming up with a design that would be functional, yet pleasing to the eye.  It was a rewarding experience to be able to give these two deserving families each a room they always dreamed of! Everyone set your DVR to record "Fix It and Finish It" at 11:00-11:30 Monday-Friday on Channel 5!! Our two episodes are set to air later this year. Check out www.fixitandfinish.com to find out all the details of the show!!

Fresh Perspective

In life, completely starting over is not always an option nor can it be a desirable one. Just the same, many of us cannot/do not want to start a room completely from scratch. We have the reds/greens/golds existing in our homes and all we see around the stores are neutrals, grays, and blues. Naturally, this is very frustrating! FFC may have a new look, but we design for you! How do you get this new, fresh look without changing everything?? Easy! Slowly implement new pieces in with your current room(s). Liven your existing furniture up with new pillows. Swap out that old, dusty floral. Trade in the old coffee table for a new one--yes, mix your woods!! Working on a budget? That's fine! Take it one step at a time and look forward to the fresh, end product.

One of our designers, Jenna McPherson, worked with a client that had a beautiful, traditional home. This particular client wanted something to liven her living room. The main task was to update with new window treatments. However, she took it a step further and selected pillows for her sofa, as well. Pictured below is the "Before"--notice the pillows, as well as curtains.

Next, you can see the transition happening. The curtains changed from a heavy print to a light linen fabric with small, chenille, raised dot. As you can see, the green, geometric pillow made this couch so much fun! Jenna recycled the 'displaced' pillows form the sofa on two chairs in the same room.

Final product! New, fresh, and beautiful!

Now Trending...

It may have been a few weeks since we have returned from Highpoint Market, but we have not forgotten the fabulous, new trends. All of us here at First Fruit are very excited to let you all in on the current trends heading our way! Many of you have seen these trends in you homes, parents' homes, and even grandparents' homes. BEWARE! They're back and we cannot be more excited to implement them into design. Design--like life--is ever-evolving. So, open you minds and embrace the sophistication and richness!

Pictured in this Schumacher add, you can see the blend of linens showing menswear prints, wools, and animal prints. Fur/animal prints are a great way to add a little texture to a room, whether it is a covered ottoman, pillow, or even going exotic with a wallpaper. Speaking of wallpaper... notice the subtle print on the walls. Wallpaper is back-in-action and FABULOUS. We have picked up new lines and cannot wait to show you your endless options for the 1/2 bath or dining room that 'needs something'.

Pictured is the new, fabric line we have picked up--Osborne & Little. O&L brings smaller lines to the table as well, such as: Nina Campbell, Lorca, Phillip Jefferies LTD., and Designers Guild. These are all higher-end lines, yet come in larger widths (an English width is larger than an American 54"width fabric), and in most cases justifies the end price. But, back to market trends!... VELVET, VELVET, VELVETS!!! Solid and printed velvets are huge! If you cannot stand to repeat this trend, again, just try a throw pillow at first. Trust us, you'll fall back into love with this rich look. We could not find a showroom without seeing velvets, and could not be more excited!

This picture encompasses many of the big trends directly from the C.R. Laine showroom. We bring you rug ottomans! Not only will you see rug ottomans, but rug pillows have been ordered, too. These are a great way to incorporate texture and/or a print into any room. They are being used in both formal and casual settings. Next, the cluster of prints are a must. Whether they're matching or an assortment... use them! The metallic linens are to be expected on furniture, as well as accent pillows. Any fabrics with a sheen and/or texture are coming your way faster than Santa can say "HO HO HO"!

Caracole is another line we have picked up this market! We love the simplicity and design of their furniture. They are clean without being too modern and have a refined, rustic style (which we LOVE). Layering an animal print rug on top of another, brings a quirky, yet 'designed' look to your room.

Once again, we come back to C. R. Laine trends for Fall/Winter. Neutrals are still alive and kicking. This soft palette is to-die-for! Don't you just want to cuddle up in this room?! Mixing side pieces and woods are a necessity in design. With neutral palettes such as this picture, it's always good to have one piece within the room that brings some richness, such as the coffee table.

Ladies and Gentlemen, as we said, brace yourself. Change is on the horizon! The great thing about all the 'new', is how easily it can be

incorporated into your existing homes. Everything comes back around and we cannot wait for everyone to see how easy it will be to update.

Happy Everything,

Ashley and the Girls at First Fruit Collection

Tis The Season

This year at First Fruit Collection is like no other in our history. Yes, we have still held onto the traditional red and green christmas, but we have some new introductions as well. This Christmas, we were wanting a clean, timeless look that will last throughout the ages. In our market shopping, turns out we were right on point with our new 'look' we were going for.

One of our store favorites for Christmas decoration this year is the deer pictured. It is large enough to be used outside or be the statement piece you need inside!

These deer are simple, yet classic. They are small enough to place on that chest or side board that just needs a little/extra Christmas spunk!

Another great way to dress up any area that needs the Christmas spirit is to place a smaller tree in a planter. Since the tree is smaller in size, place 2 to 3 ornament styles on the tree to keep a clean look. Placing too many ornaments and ornament styles will overwhelm the smaller trees.

Here at FFC, we looooove our driftwood! The Driftwood nativity is another one of our favorites for the season! We have flanked the nativity scene with silver christmas trees to give it a little sparkle and pop. These tree are another classic christmas decoration that will be beautiful for years to come.

Did we say that we looove driftwood, yet?? Last year, we introduced the driftwood angels. They were a HUGE hit and we did not order enough. We didn't make the same mistake this year! Even though we ordered more this year, they will not last long. Meredith's arrangements flank the sides bringing some life and natural color to the driftwood and burlap arrangement (neutral enough to be used year-around!).

Placing medium/skinny trees next to your server will be a nice filler and addition for the Christmas season. Keep your existing lamps and add a nautral Christmas-scape in the dining room to allow for a beautiful Christmas dining experience.

Designer Tips

Designer DOs and Please DON'T

You do not have to be a degreed designer to have an 'eye' or 'knack' for interior design. With publications such as House Beautiful, Veranda, Architectural Digest, etc., as well as the new phenomenon of Houzz and Pintrest, distinguishing a well designed space is very easily spotted. This readily available information allows one to find his or her style, likes, dislikes, etc. Therefore, these days, it's not only accessible--it's affordable!

If I had a quarter for every time I hear, "I know what I like... I just don't know how to make it come together!", or, "I've tried so hard to make this ____ (insert your room here) work, but I'm just tired and out of ideas", I'd be a millionaire!! But, as I tell these people, it's okay! That is what a designer is for! You may know that you like but, we know how to execute your vision and make it all come together! Interior design is very much problem solving.

Here's a little insight as to what we, as designers, say are the 'Dos and Please Don't' to your projects:

Do:
  • Do keep everything classic and simple. You want to make your decisions last!
  • Do choose at least one piece that reflects you or your family.
  • Do make a room chic but also livable.
  • Do look at the whole picture--be realistic and decisive.
  • Do mix.. not everything has to match perfectly! A perfectly matched room can look over-designed.
  • Do keep an open mind when working with your designer... we do kind of know what we're doing ;)
  • Do re-purpose old pieces. But, spend the money to have it done correctly!
  • Do be clear about your budget (if one) before working with your designer.
  • Do mix your finishes.
  • Do update your paint and light fixtures/lamps for a quick update.
  • Do invest in artwork.
  • Do mix old and new, high cost and low cost.
  • DO invest in a good designer!! As designers, we are here to help you and work with your budget.
Don't:
  • Don't get hung up on the tiny details, Remember the whole picture!.
  • Don't do everything at the same level of interest. Create contrast.
  • Don't buy mass-produced artwork.
  • Don't try to fill a room with furniture.
  • Don't put something on EVERY wall... Walls need to breathe and eyes need to rest!!
  • Don't paint before hiring a designer.
  • Don't ask for too many peoples' opinions (this will simply confuse you--Trust YOUR instinct and your designer!)
  • Don't over accessorize... less is more!
  • Don't be afraid to make changes!
On the last note.... when your are ready to make these changes... DO come to First Fruit Collection to set up your design appointment!! 901-861-7111

Have we told you about Meredith!?

Well, Meredith McKinney has been First Fruit Collection's floral designer for almost 3 years.  Moving forward with our updated look, she has created an array of arrangements for the store. Can't find exactly what you're looking for? She will work along side you and custom design anything your little hearts desire. Many have had the pleasure of working with her and reaping the benifits of her beautiful work and kind heart. If we haven't convinced you yet, here's a little taste--Dig in!

Don't you hate when your fresh flower arrangement dies? This arrangement looks just like a fresh one straight from the florist--the great thing is it will never die!

This layered arrangement is a great way to accent your dining table or entry table
with fall colors!

This fall swag is great to hang above a door or to accent a cabinet.
It can work with any style room.

Succulent arrangements were all the rage at market..we saw them everywhere!
They are a great thing to use to freshen up any room :)

Happy Fall Ya'll! This arrangement is neutral and rustic, with lots
of different elements!?

Floral arrangements have been used in interior decorating for centuries.  While the style and colors of design change with time, arrangements are still being used to accent any room . As a designer, I believe that a floral arrangement is a great way to add a pop of color, texture, and life to a room.  So if you are looking for a quick update to your room or just to add a little life, bring in that old arrangement (thats been  accumulating some dust) and Meredith will be happy to redo or replace!

Happy Everything!

The Wedding

The wedding of Cannon and Ashley took place on
May 25, 2012 at Heartwood Hall in Piperton, TN.
It was one of the most memorable days of my
life . . . magical in every way.

The venue was amazing to say the least.  The
wedding was held in the "Four Seasons Garden",
the coctails and horderves were served in the
pool/porch area, and the reception was held
in the barn.  The staff at Heartwood Hall was
so courteous and easy to work with.  The food
was delicious, fresh and hot.  We received so
many compliments from our guests about how
wonderful everything was.

The wedding dress turned out beautiful and
she was stunning in it.  The gown was designed
by Ashley and sewn with love by me.  It was
definitely a gift of love and I was so proud to
see her wear it.

If you would like to view photos of the wedding:

I never thought I would say this . . . but
I am sad that the wedding is over.  I don't
know what we will talk about now.  The
beginning of every conversation for the
last year has been "For the wedding, or
I saw this great wedding idea on Pinterest"!

Now I look forward to some "me time" . . .
only until I find something on Pinterest to try!

Happy Decorating,

Lisa?

Interior Designers

I have been spending most of my time outside of the store in clients homes.  This is the part of interior design that I love the most, actually seeing the
home in person and transforming it into a beautiful space.

The field of interior design allows me to always "think outside of the box",
something I am always doing.  I wake up in the middle of the night with
an idea and am always anxious to implement it.  With my current addiction
to Pinterest, the ideas are more numerous than the time I have to implement them.

I completed one project this past week for an 8 year old girl.  This was for
her "big girl room".  I used a combination of lilac, lime and teal.  This was
one of my favorite projects because it was an unexpected color palette.  I loved the way the room turned out and it will definitely grow with her for many years to come.

Using an interior designer is not for the super wealthy.  It is for everyone!
I have compiled 10 reasons for you to hire a designer.  A designer is a must for anyone, with any budget.

MY TOP 10 REASONS TO HIRE A DESIGNER:

1.  Designers can save you money.

When you are making interior selections and decisions for one room or your
entire home, it can be overwhelming.  You will be making purchases over a
period of time and not purchasing everything at one time.  You must consider
all aspects of the project with each decision.  With a designers assistace,
they can steer you in the right direction so the entire space can come together as a whole.  Be honest . . . how many gallons of paint have you
purchased to repaint a room  . . . and still weren't satisfied with the result?
With a designer's perspective, money can be saved, along with the countless
wasted hours.  This leads me to my next reason . . .

2.  Designers can save you time.

Think about all the time you spend shopping, purchasing, and returning
items  A designer is able to see the whole project and the end result in
each piece she recommends.  This saves you a lot of wasted time and
gas, and not to mention the gallons of wasted paint.

3.  Designers can think outside of the box and give you a fresh perspective.

We can see things that others may not see and provide fresh ideas and unique perspective for a space.  We can place furniture and accessories in a new place to give you a new look.

4.  Designers create and work within a budget.

Designers develop and plan and a budget for each project.  They can tell you on the front end exactly how much the project will cost before you spend the first dollar.  This helps you plan your purchases over a period of time to get exactly what you want without any surprises.

5.  Designers listen.

A good designer will listen to your ideas and thoughts for your space and then implement them into a beautiful space.  Each project will reflect your style and taste and be personally fitted to you.

6.  Designers push you!

A good designer will push you to think outside the box. They will also push you to make desicions that you have been putting off because of indecision.

7.  Designers plan your space.

This is where we start.  We first lay out existing pieces and then determine where to add new.  This way you are not guessing at scale and porportion when purchasing new pieces.

8.  Project Coordination and Contacts.

A good designer knows resources for painters, plumbers, electricians, artists,
faux finishers, trim carpenters, and many other trades.  We have worked with these people for years and know their reputation.  There is a lot of security in knowing who will be working in your home.

9. Designers have passion.

I eat and breathe interior design.  It is all I know, from my blog to my business, design is what I know and what I do.  I am not your neighbor or your sister with just an opinion.  I am a degreed designer with 30 years of experience.  I have painted walls the wrong color over the years and learned from all my past experience so you won't have to paint your walls the wrong color!  I am a trained professional and I have a portfolio to show for all my hard work.

10.  Your project will look like a designer had a hand in it.

Projects done with the assistance of an experienced designer somehow always stand apart from those that have been done without training.  I can always tell when I enter a clients home, whether they have had help from an interior designer or their neighbor.  There is just a coordinated flow to the space.  There are also touches that only a designer would do.

I hope I haven't offended any of the "Do it Yourselfers" out there, and I hope you have learned that working with a Designer is attainable for anyone with any space and any budget.  If you have a project you have been putting off, really not knowing where to start, or not really knowing what the project will cost, we are here to help you.

Please call the store at 901.861.7111 to set up your in-home consultation today.  Design fees are $75 per hour.  It will be the best money you ever saved!

Happy Decorating,

Lisa

Design Trends

If you have visited First Fruit Collection lately, more specifically, since March 1 when we reopened the store with our wonderful new owner, Ashley Toney, you have noticed a change in our style. The new look is softer, less fussy, and full of new design elements.

We wanted to incorporate the new design trends in our store and mix them with the traditional country french furnishings you have loved for so many years. There is a lot of reclaimed wood, industrial elements, mercury glass, natural fibers, muted colors, and unexpected accents. Currents trends that are making statements in design are monograms on just about everything, solid color rugs, silver and gold accents, chevron, ikat and quatrefoil patterns, and tufted sofas.

You may be wondering if you can incorporate these new looks in your home. How can you update without getting rid of everything you have? We have heard many questions from our customers on how to get this new look in their homes. We have to address each home on an individual basis, depending on your particular style, but there are some simple ideas on how to update I will share with you.

Do you have a piece of furniture that could be painted with a new soft color? You may have a dated motif painted piece that is really dating your design.

Do you have all of your art under glass? Try using an original piece of art, such as an unframed canvas painting.

Do your floral arrangements still contain ivy, roses or magnolias? Are they dusty and tired? If so, it may be time to update those. Trends now are more natural florals with less mix of color.

Is your sofa a large scale floral? If so, it may be time to soften the look with a solid piece. A solid sofa is always a good idea, less trendy. Put your print on disposable items, like an accent pillow.

Are your rugs making too bold of a statement? Try using a solid textured rug to soften the look of your room. Solid rugs make a space appear larger and give more focus on the furnishings.

Are your light fixtures dating your home? Are they shiny brass or have beveled glass on them that always looks dirty? Can you paint them or bust out the glass to update them. Lighting is like jewelry to your home, the final sparkling touch. Take a look at your lighting, it may be time to time to replace some of your fixtures.

We have great ideas and great designers at First Fruit to help you with your home. We love to see photos of your rooms to help you make your home beautiful. We can help with fabric and paint selections, window and bedding selections, furniture and accessories, and everything else that will make your home amazing.

Come see us with all of your design needs. Our designers even make house calls. Call to book an appointment with one of our staff designers, you won’t be disappointed. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Happy decorating,
Lisa

What in the world is a davenport?

My daughter Kara had a good friend growing up who used to spend a lot of time in our home. She would often “sleep over” and the girls would play and giggle until the wee hours of the morning.

I overheard her tell Kara about visits with her grandmother, who lived somewhere up north, way up north, where car is pronounced caarrrr, and you want a pop? (aka as Coke) She told of spending the night on visits to her home and her grandmother would say in a very northern accent, “ Laura, you’ll sleep here on the davenport!” Laura would giggle, and explain how she never knew quite where she would be sleeping,
but always ended up on the couch.

Once, just a few years ago, at First Fruit, we had an elderly northern customer who also needed a davenport. She came to the counter and said “I need a davenport!” All the girls just looked at each other as though she was ordering a mixed drink or something. While they were trying to find the recipe for a “davenport”, I proceeded to show her our line of sofas, couches, divans, sleepers. lounges, fainting couches, sectionals, love seat, settees, and anything else that would fit her small frame.

Did you ever consider how many names there are for the same thing? Have you ever tried to act like you knew what someone was asking for when you had no idea at all. You pretend to follow the conversation, hoping secretly inside that the more they talk, somehow you will get enough clues to figure it out. You don’t want to appear dumb or uninformed, but you are totally clueless.Maybe it is just me . . . . .

Over the years at First Fruit we have heard many strange renditions of some of the following words:

Toile: Tulle, Tole, Twat (oh my)
Cache’ Pot: Cashiers Pot, Cash Pot, Tin thing with feet

Ikat: Eekat, Eye Dog, Squiggly runny southwestern print

Sconce: Scones, Bracket things

Matlesse’: Matsey, Mattingly, Quilt thing

Rush Seat: Grassy woven stuff, Woven cardboard rope, or wicker

Just thought you would like a little humor today. It goes to show that we all try new words from time to time, sometimes not quite sure how they are pronounced or the meaning. Hope this made you smile and think happy thoughts today. Now come in to see us at First Fruit . . . we have a lot of new davenports on the floor!

Happy Decorating,

Lisa

What Makes a House a Home?

Home is the one place in your life that you can relax, curl up on the sofa or comfortable chair and just enjoy being there. I have those times where I just want to be home. I don’t want to go anywhere, sometimes not even get dresses all day. I just enjoy my home. I love working in my garden, crafting in my sewing room, cutting my grass in the summer, cooking in my kitchen, and I even enjoy cleaning my home. I know that sounds strange to you, but I really enjoy it. It is such a mindless task, so relaxing.

I know you all enjoy your homes as well. What makes you home special? It may be the cat in the window, the puppy curled up beside you on the sofa, your favorite magazine on the coffee table, the pile of shoes by the garage door, the smell of dinner in the oven, the sound of bare feet running down the hall calling for you.

Whatever it is that makes your home special, we hope that we are somehow part of what makes it beautiful to you. For 13 years now, First Fruit Collection has furnished many homes and made many friends along the way. We have enjoyed being part of making you homes “HAPPY”.

We are now beginning a new chapter at First Fruit Collection. We have just completed a total renovation of the store. I am so glad to be part of this new beginning. The Store looks amazing. I can hardly believe it is the same store. The changes are very impressive and the vignettes are so well designed, it helps to see the furniture grouping as you would see it in your own home. I absolutely love all the reclaimed woods and natural elements. All I can say is

WOW!

I do hope to see all of you at the store on Thursday, March 1. Our hours are 10:00-8:00. We will have hourly door prizes, specials and treats for you to enjoy. Please come and see us. We have so missed seeing you.

Sneak Peek!

Our Designing Women at Work!

We have had one busy week. First Fruit Collection

is undergoing a total transformation. We have been

painting, spackling, hanging lighting, paneling the

walls with an old house that Ashley found and had

torn down (you will be amazed), and redecorating

the store from top to bottom. There has been

whining, tears, bruises, blood, sweat, laughter,

dancing and singing. It has been one of the

hardest and most rewarding weeks of my life.

I am so proud of Ashley. Her style and ability

to put the store together has amazed me. The

furniture and accessories are so well coordinated.

We have all had so much fun placing all the new stuff.

We have squeeled with excitement more than once

and want to buy everything. Don't worry, we are

saving it for you.

Here is a sneek peek of just a sample of what is new:

Lots of reclaimed furniture!

Lots of reclaimed furniture!

The crosses are amazing as always!

Be sure to come by on March 1 for our all day celebration.

"Happy Valentines Day, Where is Your Heart?"

As First Fruit Collection under my ownership is winding
down, I find myself reflecting on all the years that have
come and gone and all the joys, heartaches, laughter,
births, adoptions, deaths, stories, diets, contests,
counseling, marriages, and most of all the memories
that are associated with this wonderful place. I step
down with an expectation of great things to come and
feel blessed to be part of a new chapter. I look forward
to my role as designer and employee. I will stand
beside Ashley as she takes on her role as owner, and
be there to hold her up as she gets settled in her new
position. I pray you will accept her and the changes
with anticipation and excitement.

I will continue to blog for “Your Home Can Be Happy”,
I still have much to say! One last thing I will say to
you is where is your heart? Does Jesus have a place
there. He came to live in my heart when I was 8 years
old. Ever since then he has been so real to me. He
has forgiven my sins and has a place prepared for me
in heaven to live eternally with Him. As our relationship
developed, he has responded to my concerns with
understanding and guidance. He helped me be a good
student, wife, mother, daughter and friend. He always
assured me that I was His and He loved me. He has
given me courage to take steps of faith and do things
I thought I couldn’t do on my own. I’ll admit I wasn’t
as faithful to our relationship as He was, but even in
those times I always was aware that I could call His
name and He would always respond. Over and over
again He has verified His realness, an inner voice inside
of me, knowing who He is and that He is real.

If you don’t have this personal relationship with Jesus,
you can. He is waiting for you to respond. It is as
simple as a prayer to ask Him to live in your heart and
forgive your sins.

True joy comes by walking daily with Him. He is my
joy, my strength and my salvation. I pray that He is
yours too.

Happy Decorating,

Lisa

Hi, my name is Lisa . . . . I am a perfectionist. Oh yes, I have been one for as long as I can remember. I confess this to you because I started thinking about a comment a friend of mine made this past weekend. In a conversation about her thirteen year old daughter, she commented that she wouldn’t want to go back to middle school and do it all over again.

I started thinking about that statement and had to disagree silently. I think I would like the opportunity to go back and do it all again. I would cherish the thought of being able to choose friends more wisely, study harder, and be more focused on the things that really matter and less concerned with trying to please people that really don’t matter in the end.

I realize there is no way to go back and do it all again like the movies, Thirteen going on Thirty and Seventeen Again. The problem is that we learn life lessons along the way. We learn by hurt, disappointment, broken dreams, and failures. All of our past experiences enables us to learn who when can trust, who will make a good friend, and how we can minister to others through tough times. Through our trials, we become better equipped to walk beside a friend going through hard times.

As we live every day and experience “life”, we gain wisdom along the way. I guess that is why we should listen to people who have lived longer than we have. I think there is some merit in seeking counsel from our elders. The best advise and spiritual wisdom in my life has come from elderly women whom God has placed in my life. Time spent with them has been so sweet and priceless.

How does the perfectionist statement fit in to all of this reminiscing? I thought you would never ask! I think my perfectionist nature has been a blessing and a curse in my life . . . . you see, I strive so hard to make things perfect in everything that I do, I tend to miss the joy. I live with a lot of disappointment when things go wrong. I also make others close to me miserable by my expectations of perfection.

This past year, through many trials and tears, I have come to the realization that things aren’t always going to be perfect. And most importantly, I cannot change the world and the people in it and make it perfect. I can either live my life disappointed and always striving for perfection, or I can choose to be HAPPY! Happiness for me is more important the older I get . . . it has taken a lifetime to realize that!

As I wind down as my role as owner of First Fruit Collection, I am looking forward to time spent with my husband, mother, children and granddaughter. There are just 4 weeks and counting. . . . . . .

Happy Decorating,

Lisa

Sneak Peek

We would like to give you a glimpse of the wonderful
work our little elves have been doing this week. I have
been amazed at all the beautiful decorations this year.
I am sure you won't be disappointed!

Iron stair railing adorned with two different
garlands and tons of ribbon and cupcakes.
It is sweet enough to eat.
Cute letters hung from ribbon on the dining room
mirror. A cute idea I found on Pinterest (I got a lot
more sleep before I found Pinterest!)

This pine wall shelf always gets a transformation
at all the holidays. This year the elves have made their
presence known nestled among the Christmas plates.
My moss bunny has made his appearance and has
found himself all tangled up in lights. He so wants
to help. He does not want to miss Christmas, even
though he is an Easter decoration!
This dining room is ready for all the guests that
will come this year. Love these banquettes.
This hutch has also got a transformation with the
Christmas dishes and lit presents.
New icy tree this year with touches of mercury
glass and robin's egg blue.
Beautiful burlap stockings I gave Ashley for her
birthday in October. Notice the "A" and "B",
for Ashley and Brandon. Now if they will only
name their children with "C" and "D" names,
we will be all set. But wait, Coco, the dog is
her "C"! White wooden angels are keeping
watch beside the fireplace.

I do hope you all can come to our Christmas Home
Tour this year. We have worked so hard. It just
wouldn't be the same without you.

Happy Decorating,

Lisa

First Fruit Collection will be changing ownership as of March 1, 2012.

I would like to introduce the new owner to you. Her name is Ashley

Toney. She will graduate with an Interior Design degree in the

Spring of 2012. Ashley has been employed at First Fruit Collection

almost 2 years, and during this time she has been working along

side of me. She has been the main buyer at every market since

her employment began. She has also encouraged me to make

changes to FFC such as remove carpeting, paint walls with

continuity, move bookcases and walls, focus on larger items,

and introduce our customers to higher end lines.

Ashley portrays wisdom well beyond her years. I have been

amazed at her “buying eye”, always purchasing items at market

that sell out first. This first started as a contest between us, but

it didn’t take me long to see that she has excellent taste and knows

what will sell. Her endurance at market has also amazed me,

sometimes shopping 12 hours straight, never whining (except

when I want to check out a showroom she thinks “looks cheap”).

She has assisted me in every facet of our store, including

sewing, displaying, ordering, christmas set-up, warehousing,

and everything else that can happen at FFC. I am confident

that she will continue to make FFC a favorite shop for all

of our loyal customers. I love FFC, it has been like my child

for 13 years, and will continue to work with Ashley in this

transition. I will remain employed as an employee and

designer and will continue to assist in buying at market trips.

This change for me is a happy one. I am now a grandmother

of a sweet 2 year old granddaughter, Maggie. My youngest

daughter, Ashley, will be married in May of 2012. My husband,

Vince will be starting a new business in the Spring of 2012.

I am the main caregiver of my mother, Nell, who is suffering

from Alzheimer’s. I have come to the point in my life that I

don’t actually have a life apart from FFC. I need to step

away from the responsibility and focus on caring for

those people God has placed in my life at this time.

I ask you all for your support of this change. I am

confident that you will love Ashley as much as I do.

Happy Decorating,

Lisa

It's Time to Decorate for Fall

It is that time of year once again, there is a nip in the air,
especially in the early morning . . . that wonderful feeling
of getting to wear a sweatshirt again on that morning walk.
It is always hard to know when to put your fall decor out,
especially outdoors when my geraniums look so beautiful
and full . . . I simply can't replace them just yet with Fall
mums and pansies. Now my impatiens are another story,
they have seen better days . . . so long and leggy.

I started last weekend in my home with putting away
my summer floral arrangements indoors, nests with eggs,
summer pillows, etc. It is so hard for me to put things
away that I love, but I will enjoy them again next Spring.
Fall has always been a hard season for me to decorate
indoors. My home has never welcomed orange . . . or
brown . . . they are not as happy as the colors that I
use in my home. . . Oh the dilemma!

I have learned to use green gourds, pumpkins, natural
wheat, etc. to bring the look of fall indoors.

My back porch is an extension of my home. We use
it as much as we use our family room. We love to
watch the deer, turkey, hummingbirds, and enjoy
all of God's beauty.

I switched out my pillows on my porch to a fall
owl with a brown polka dot contrast trim.

Pumpkin candy jars complete with our favorite candy,
you never know when a trick or treater will come by.
Or maybe Vince will need a midnight snack!

I hated to take away my geraniums just yet,
my scarecrow got a new bow this year . . .
brown and cream silk check. He is so
happy to welcome all of our back door guests.

My orange wreaths look spectacular on my cream
house with taupe doors. Never mind my urns . . .
they are getting an overhaul this weekend.

Our back entrance is welcoming with my welcome sign.

My kitchen hutch also received it's annual redo, I
just love dishes, it is so fun to get to display them.

Decorating is such a passion for me . . . I just love
seeing things different in my home. I purposely never
use things the same way each year, that is boring
to me. I love experimenting with a different look
every year. That is why you must come to our
Christmas home tour this year . . . things will
definitely change . . . you will be amazed!

So, this weekend, get out your fall decor, or
come buy something new at First Fruit . . . and
welcome this beautiful season.

Happy Decorating,

Lisa
